Qatarisation is an important initiative for us. We firmly work on ensuring a substantial increase in the percentage of Qatari youth employed within QNH and its hotels.
We have implemented training programmes of promising Qatari male and female high school graduates in addition to sponsorship at Stenden University in order to establish the foundation of creating job opportunities in the hospitality industry. We encourage the Qatari youth to tap into the hospitality industry as it develops them through exposure to different cultures and equips them with a career for life, opening doors for them anywhere in the world.
For Qatari employees at QNH, 'cross-training' is a buzzword; basically, it means the acquisition of skills in more than one area locally and internationally. We encourage cross training because it gives us a multi-talented workforce who can be utilized as required in various departments. Having experience in more than one area means even more choices are possible for the employees own career path, allowing both parties to benefit.
Job security in the hospitality industry has proved to be excellent due to the general shortage of trained staff in comparison to the number of positions vacant. Unlike other jobs, a hotel position will not be affected by change, and steady demand indicates that travel, for both business and pleasure, will continue to keep the hospitality industry on the upswing even in the current global crisis.
We, at QNH, are working hard to exceed the targeted percentage of Qatarisation within our units and headquarters. Various plans are being worked on by a dedicated Qatarisation committee headed by Nawaf Ali Al-Obaidli, who previously worked for QNH hotels, paving his path to employment at the Company's headquarters. Nawaf is currently utilizing his own experiences with QNH to direct the Qatarisation committee in studying, managing and implementing a variety of activities designed to attract and encourage other Qatari nationals while addressing possible resistance. We have developed an initiative approach to Qatarisation within our hotels. The following agreements have been signed throughout the past year:
An agreement between The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and QNH along with its 5 star hotels stating that every year, QNH and its 5 star hotels will sponsor a minimum of 2 Qatari high school graduates for a three year university term, which includes schooling fees (in Qatar or aboard) and monthly allowances resulting in securing employment for the sponsored student. An agreement between The Institute of Administrative Development, QNH and its owned and managed hotels, stating that employed promising nationals will undergo a development programme at the Institute for duration of 13 weeks, while still receiving their monthly salaries. An agreement between The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and QNH along with it's owned and managed hotels, stating that the Ministry will nominate suitable candidates seeking a job within the hospitality industry to undergo 6 months of on the job training in one of the hotels with monthly salaries by the Ministry. After conclusion of the training course, the successful candidates are secured 2 years of employment within the Company.
