DOHA: The Dhreima Qatar Orphan Foundation yesterday handed recognition awards to the sponsors of its first Dhreima English Language Camp summer programme.

More than 60 children participated in Dhreima’s summer camp activities, which offered them a combination of early educational benefits and supervised play that added a touch of fun to learning.

The summer camp aimed to teach the children the English language at an early age and teach them other useful skills along the way.

Khalid Kamal, Dhreima’s general manager, said the summer activity was a unique experience for the children. “We believe that it has greatly achieved its objectives. Based on questionnaires disseminated to the participants, supervisors, teachers and the team, we have collected good feedback.”

Kamal said with the positive outcome of the summer camp, which was organised in coordination with the British Council Doha, they will be “examining the possibility of holding more similar activities in the future.

The summer camp’s sponsors include Krop Transport Company, the Sealine Beach Resort, the Grand Regency Hotel, the Qatari International Exhibition Centre, Villaggio Mall, the Qatar National Hotels, City Center Cinemas, Gingle Zone, City Games Doha, Qatar Tourism Authority, Toyota Cars Showroom, El-Sharq Qatari, Islam Web, Heritage Desert Camel Riding Club, Women and Girls Scout Qatar, Centre for International Training, Rivera, Movenpick Hotel, Bicycle Rental, Bow and Arrow Country and Shooting, the Qatar Equestrian Club, National Cycling Federation, Ahmed Jassim, Ministry of Awqaf, Barzan Center for Girls, Qatar Foodball Federation, World Satellite Channels, Qatar Foundation for the Care of the Elderly, and Sicily (exhibitions and conferences).

Mohammed Al Shafai, one of the staff members at Dhreima, said the children loved the summer camp experience and wanted to extend their stay. “We never thought it would be that successful.”

The services provided during the summer camp included the residence, three meals under the supervision of nutritionists and other catering services, laundry, learning, English language lessons, entertainment, computer classes, painting and other indoor activities, and sports activities which included swimming, football and basketball.

The children spent a day at the Sealine Beach Resort during the launching of the hotel’s summer theme park.

Paintings and other artwork of the children were showcased during the awarding yesterday, which was held at the Grand Regency Hotel.THE PENINSULA
