DOHA, Qatar—January 14, 2005—Qatar National Hotels Company (QNH) introduces Sharq Village & Spa, a project that is being developed as a unique luxury five star resort that blends traditional architecture and modern facilities and amenities to meet the requirements of international leisure and business travelers. In a unique Qatari village architectural style, the resort will included 174 luxury rooms, a Six Senses Spa, a traditional Qatari Souq, food & beverage and entertainment.
Located in the mystical city of Doha surrounded by natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, Sharq Village & Spa stands in a distinguish location at the beginning of the Doha Corniche between the Doha Club, and the Doha Marriott Hotel. The Resort is surrounded by the Corniche beaches portraying the story of Qatar’s rich heritage and cultural traditions contrasting with its modern development. Development around the Corniche has occurred through time however to-date one can still sense the past village life of the Qatari people through the old Khalifa neighborhood, the smell of the old fisherman boats, and the exciting atmosphere of when the Pearl divers returned to shore after a pearl diving and fishing trips.
Every aspect of Sharq Village & Spa has been designed so that it truly recreates the past way of Qatari life. In the resort, the old sikkas and pathways are revived echoing the sounds of the children footsteps playing traditional games, the courtyards of the old houses full of robust action and even the aroma of the traditional meals prepared at noon time.
The shades of the old days are brought back to life with the echoing and rhythm of the old traditional Qatari folklore songs and music. The Sharq Village & Spa truly and uniquely portrays the old and the new by taking us in a journey through time mixed with modern life, allowing you to relax and enjoy the quiet peacefulness of an oasis.

The resort has 174 rooms, including King Rooms, Twin Rooms, King Suites (1-Bedroom), Deluxe suites (2-Bedroom) and a presidential suite for VIPs. The resort consists of a number of villas which houses the guestrooms and the Main Building for the reception and functions which sits on the sprawling 82,165 square meter property.
The Main Building which houses the reception and the main lobby where you can experience the pleasant traditional Arabic inspired interiors, lounges overlooking the pool area and the majestic view of the sea. Some amenities are also housed in the main building like the restaurant, café, cigar bar, ballroom and function rooms that is ideal for International events and activities fully equipped with the latest state of the art Audio and Video equipments and other facilities. A Board room for business conference with a business centre dedicated to business travelers is also available.
The all day dinning restaurant can accommodate 100 persons is also inspired in a traditional Arabic design interiors. An atmosphere that will give you an overlooking view to the pool area and unlimited vista to the sea. The Café is designed in an elegant and luxurious style with some traditional Arabic touch’s and overlooking the pool area. The cigar bar was designed in a grand luxurious colonial style interior, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind, where you can enjoy the flavors of the most famous Cuban cigars and listen to romantic piano rhythms. The Cigar Bar also includes a walk-in humidifier, a first in Qatar.
Another feature in the main building is the shops which were designed to resemble the old traditional Qatari souq’s from many decades ago. This unique experience portrays the traditional beauty, historical value and retail discovery of the Qatari people.
From the main building on your way to the guestrooms, you will experience the feeling of being in the old villages, walking through a maze of paved walkways, a cluster of buildings and landscaped surroundings. Water features in different areas around the rtesort gives a focal point and will guide you in which place you are in the hotel complex. A snack bar is available just beside the swimming pool for outdoor dining especially in the winter time.
While on your way to the guestroom, each with an average of 14 rooms, you will have a feeling of being in an old traditional house, a landscaped courtyard, corridors around the guestrooms and a balcony in each room. A true village setting!
The Fish Market Restaurant is another feature within the hotel. Located outside the main building, the Fish Market Restaurant is unique in everyway. An artificial oasis located near the sea gives you the true image of the old Qatari way of life where you will enjoy a unique dining experience. You will be able to enjoy the view and the sea breeze in the outdoor dining terraces and private dining areas for different functions are also available.
The swimming pool is another unique feature of the resort covering 668.43 squared meters.

The uniqueness of the resort goes well beyond the facilities available. The interior design aspect of the Sharq Village & Spa is being designed by DiLeonardo International, the service staff uniform has been personalized to resemble the traditional Qatari dressing, and the level of service to portray the friendliness and welcoming of the Qatari people.
Adding to the uniqueness of the Sharq Village & Spa, Six Senses Spas has been selected to develop and operate a Six Senses Spa, the largest of its kind in the Gulf Region. Qatar National Hotels, after an extensive selection process which involved reviewing the proposals from several of the leading international spa operators chose Six Senses due to their unique underlying philosophy and approach to spa experiences. Six Senses Spas, together with Arab Engineering Bureau as the architects and P49, a reputed Thai design firm, as the interior designers, are applying the overall design of the Spa will resemble a traditional Qatari village. The architecture will not be modern and linear but rather like a true Middle Eastern village that has grown organically over time, with winding village streets rather than corridors, and with 23 treatment suites resembling typical village houses.
The main areas of the spa will feature facilities such as saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, plunge pools, ample changing rooms, fully equipped fitness clubs and dedicated areas for yoga, meditation, tai chi and other eastern practices, as well as relaxation rooms and prayer rooms. The facilities will be duplicated so that both gentlemen and ladies will be offered dedicated private facilities. Ladies will also be offered a private entrance and reception as well as a club facility with several majlis areas and a professional salon for hair, nail, beauty and henna treatments.
Six Senses will offer all the traditional treatments such as Swedish, Thai, Balinese and aroma massages, beauty treatments, as well more specialized treatments such as crystal therapy, mud baths, body scrubs and polishes, typical private hammam experiences and lessons in eastern meditation and exercise traditions.
